Our Swiss trip is designed for skiers of all levels, but it’s also tailored to members who just want to enjoy a well-organized tour! It includes round trip air from Louisville to Zurich, ground transportation, 5 nights lodging at the conveniently located grand Hotel Schweizerhof, with breakfast buffet and dinner daily in the quaint ski town of Engelberg. We’ll spend an additional 2 nights at the Swissotel Zurich with a daily breakfast buffet. We’ve included current departure taxes and fuel surcharges, 24-hour emergency assistance, and a trip souvenir.
Engelberg is just a short 1-½ hour bus ride from Zurich, which means that it is the closest and largest ski resort to the major city. It is one of the oldest towns in Switzerland, yet really is an undiscovered gem! The town has 4 nightclubs, 50 restaurants and bars, and a lively après ski each day. This is a wonderful old-world town, which grew up around a Benedictine Monastery. Besides downhill skiing, you have many unique choices for recreation including cross-country skiing, snow hiking on groomed paths, ice-skating, snowshoeing, snow tubing, and tobogganing.
There are two large ski areas in Engelberg: Titlis, and Brunni. Mt. Titlis has a glacier, made famous for the world’s first and still operating 360 degree revolving cable car. The elevation at the top of Titlis is 9900 feet with approx. 6000 feet of vertical drop. Beside several wonderful restaurants with views of the expansive ski area, you can visit a free glacier cave (there’s even a bar inside)! The Brunni ski area has mostly beginner and intermediate runs. Approx. 80% of both areas has groomed runs, with the remaining 20% available for off-piste skiing.
Three exciting optional day tours from Engelberg!Lucerne, Switzerland- This day trip is approx. ½ hour bus ride from Engelberg. We will have a guided tour of the town as well as a picturesque boat tour on the lake.
Bern, Switzerland- Our day trip will have a guided walking tour, then lunch, and a visit to the cheese factory (can’t wait to try samples).
Davos, Switzerland- This option is for skiers/ or non-skiers. This town will remind some of the scenery of Zermatt.
